The South Caucasus is in a constant state of limbo. The region is being pulled towards Russia, Turkey and the European Union (EU) as the main geopolitical centres of gravity. Iran might in future present a fourth pole while the United States (US) can still play an influential role. Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia together with these external actors form a dense web of interdependencies over governance and values; security and conflict; and trade and energy.
